Tanglewood Middle 2024

Social Studies unit at Tanglewood Middle, 2024.

I have been working as an arts educator since 2019.
My teaching experience includes private workshops, homeschool arts integration, and arts integration residencies in Greenville County Schools.
During my week-long SmartARTS arts integration residencies,
I teach students to create their own minicomics to demonstrate their knowledge in core subjects including ELA, social studies, and science. I have also integrated my comic project with journalism and visual arts. I teach students shape language to design characters and I teach them how to plan out a 6-page story with a beginning, middle, and end that is expressed with a combination of drawings and written dialogue or narration. Comics are a versatile medium that can be used to tell all kinds of stories or explain a wide range of academic concepts!
In 2025 I received the Skip & Carrie Gordon Emerging Teaching Artist Award for my work with SmartARTS and the Metropolitan Arts Council. Later that year I was awarded the Judi Cassel Fellow distinction for my work in cartooning and animation.
